Blue-Winged Warbler came about through the initiative of the NYC Department of Health and the NYC Department of Transportation to promote the use of the stairs on 164th st and 3rd Ave. The Bronx has been ranked as the unhealthiest county in New York State for six consecutive years as it struggles with high rates of obesity as well as other poor physical health problems. The design of the mural is playful and its colors strive to encourage activity in the community, making the use of the stairs enjoyable.

The stairs are located in the South Bronx neighborhood Morrisania on 164th st and 3rd Ave. To learn more about the community of Morrisania click here.
